I am writing to you in the hopes of getting Justice and Rights restored.
You have two people-Ty Whetten and Kaitlyn Bachman-who were moved to the Duchesne County jail on Friday without cause. Unfortunately that fits the pattern of completely ignoring their rights and holding them in the Uintah County jail illegally since May 15, 2024.
There are some very bad people with the Vernal police and Uintah County Sheriff’s office who are covering up for a criminal that Steve Labrum claims as one of his deputies.
Darick Morrell started abusing his wife before they were married and his 3 year old daughter (Piper) since she was born. With the help of corrupt cop buddies, Darick took his daughter (claiming he had full custody), got his wife arrested for custodial interference (with no hearing or evidence) and has had them cover for and hide him from any legal recourse.
After putting Darick’s wife and daughter in protective custody and speaking to several lawyers, we determined a course of legal action to take but Darick kidnapped his daughter January 10, 2024 before we could put anything into place. We have been speaking to retired law enforcement, private investigators, and several lawyers to see how to get Piper back.
We were told that Darick denying his wife the right to mediation was against the law, so we could do a motion to compel mediation.
Ty Whetten, Kaitlyn Bachman, and Beth Schardine went to Vernal May 15 to serve Darick.
Everywhere they went to find him, the people called the police as soon as they left, claiming that they had been threatened (not true).
By the time Ty, Kaitlyn, and Beth found where darick was living and showed up to simply serve papers for mediation, Darick had a premeditated trap planned with the corrupt law enforcement helping him.
Darick locked Ty and Kaitlyn in his house while he shot at them. When they got out they were met by police, handcuffed, and taken to the police department for questioning.
As soon as they asked for a lawyer, they were driven to the jail. What has been done to them since then thankfully has nothing to do with you.
But in an effort to try and save his career, Lance Dean let Ty, Beth, and Kaitlyn (all separately) watch the body cam footage. Officer Bummel told Ty that he was told to stay away from Darick.
That wasn’t true, but even if he was, that’s illegal. Police cannot make up a restraining order, and they cannot interfere with someone being served.
The two things this shows is that the trap was premeditated, and darick does not have legal custody of his daughter. In their discovery, Steve Labrum claimed to be there that night. He never shows up.
There are several times where body cams get blocked and audio gets covered. Darick admits that he intended to shoot at them before they even showed up. He fired his service weapon and was never investigated.
When the police showed up (before the 911 call), Beth called me to tell me the police were there.
I had the CPS worker who had been taking care of Piper before Darick took her, call the police to talk to them and tell them that darick was the one breaking the law. After the call, the officer told Beth that it didn’t matter.
The CPS worker called the police department the next day to give the same report.
There is no record of the call on May 15, and we haven’t found the call from the 16th either.
I am only sharing a bit of the lies and corruption with you.
They charged Ty, Beth, and Kaitlyn with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, assault on an officer, and some other stuff.
Every piece of evidence they have supports the innocence of Ty, Beth, and Kaitlyn, and the brutality, abuse of power, and coverup from the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office and the Vernal police.
They know this, which is one of the reasons we believe they moved the three of them to other jails in different counties (Beth is in Wasatch County, which is why I haven’t included her in this request).
I am asking you to have Stephen Foote get the charges removed and release Ty and Kaitlyn from your jail.
You might say that you don’t have the authority because the charges are not from your county. Steve Labrum gave you the authority when he moved them to your county.
He had no legal right for such a move, which means they are in your jail illegally.
We are suing Steve, Darick, Matt, and others, in federal court.
I would request that darick is arrested for premeditated attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, and police brutality, and Piper is returned to her mother where she legally belongs. Steve has only covered and lied for Darick, so we will never get justice from Uintah County.
We are holding a rally at the State Capital building. It would be a great day for justice if we could have Ty and Kaitlyn share how their rights were restored.
